Carol joined Advent 4 years ago, having transferred in from Homerville Lutheran Church near Ashland Ohio when she moved to Oakwood Village in May of 2016. Son, Michael and his family were already attending. She said she really liked the music and felt quite at home.
Carol is from Eastern Pennsylvania and attended Churchman’s Business College in Easton PA. She met her husband, the Rev. Myron Schevey, and married him in September 8, 1973. He was a Lutheran Pastor, and passed away in 2005. Carol worked for J.C. Penny’s for many years, both in PA and Ohio before retiring in 2014 when the Wooster store closed. Carol also has a daughter, Rebekah, who lives in Freedom PA, married to Brian Wylie, who was her brother Michael’s best man when he married Kris. Carol is a busy grandma to Michael and Kris’s 3 kids but still finds time to enjoy reading, baking and knitting. She also serves on the Word & Sacrament Board. Keith and Karen (Lumadue) Kerr live in Newbury, a lovely wooded, green area that they recently transformed into the Sinai desert (for those of you who watched this summer’s VBS – they did a great job as Moses and Malachi).
They met at Wittenberg University, where all four of their parents also attended! Keith graduated from Brush High School and Karen from Shelby High School. They were married in August 1969 by Karen’s father at First Lutheran Church in Shelby. They both began their teaching careers in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. Keith taught English for 35 years, retiring in 2004, and then substituted for 11 more years in Geauga County. Karen taught kindergarten, and then Montessori in East Cleveland. She also worked in theater administration. They have three married adult children and 7 grandchildren, ranging in age from 3 to 20. Amy (Brian Jung), and their three children live in Cleveland Heights; Matthew (Jean) and two children live in Madison, WI; and Ryan (Abbie) and two children live in Bloomington IL. Keith and Karen have long been interested in the theater, including acting, directing, costuming, and attending performances. Their charity and volunteer activities include Friends of WomenSafe, Apollo’s Fire Baroque Orchestra, and Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry. They both love reading, traveling, beach time in the Bahamas, golf, duplicate bridge and music. In retirement they have enjoyed cooking together and entertaining. The Kerrs say they really like the friendliness and overall atmosphere of Advent, which is why they transferred membership in July 2017. |
