Do you know the Clutters?
Tommy and Mary (Sima) Clutter drive an amazing distance from Canton to worship with us at Advent, probably because they want to spend Sundays with Jim and Mary Ann Sima, Mary’s parents, and Doug and Lori Burchard, Mary’s sister. Tommy and Mary were married at Advent July 5, 2003, having met at a mutual friend’s birthday party. Tommy graduated from Glen Oak High School in Canton, and the University of Akron, where he majored in computer science. He works for Snap-on Business Solutions. Mary attended Solon H.S. and graduated from Kent, and the Law School at the University of Akron. She’s the staff attorney for 2 judges in Tuscarawas County. Tommy loves basketball; Mary loves gardening and travel. Together they are active in PTO and many activities for their children: Mariana, 12; Jimmy, 10; and Elena, 6. Mariana’s going into 7th grade and enjoys dance and clarinet. Jimmy the 5th grader is a budding ventriloquist and musician (stringed instruments). Elena is starting 1st grade, and loves dance and puzzles. We are blessed to count on the Clutters participating at all the Advent events that involve family fun. Advent was truly blessed when the McClungs started attending VBS, special events, and
then finally joined as members spring 2019, transferring from the Chapel at Tinkers Creek in Streetsboro. They were attracted to Advent’s small church feel and strong sense of community. Matt serves on the spiritual growth board, and kindly accompanied the choir many times after our organist/choir director left in late Fall. Matt and Emily have been married for 21 years, having met in an anatomy class at West Virginia Wesleyan. Hailing originally from West Virginia, Matt attended Seminary at Duke after graduating from West Virginia Wesleyan, and served as a Methodist minister for a number of years. He has his D-Min from St. Mary Seminary and Graduate School of Theology. He has been working in property management for many years, and now is the Senior Community Manager for the new The Lumen at Playhouse Square. Originally from Cheswick PA, Emily is now the Lead Clinical Nurse Educator for University Hospitals downtown. She received her Masters at Duke and a Ph.D. from St. Louis University, and used to teach at Hiram College. Matt enjoys tennis and cooking (he’s very good at most any cuisine – you might want to ask him for some favorite recipes). Emily enjoys traveling, hiking, and playing cornhole with the family. Lauren is a 9th grader who loves track and cross country; Daniel is starting 5th grade and is interested in baseball and piano. They are great kids, and the entire family is a wonderful addition to our Advent family. |
